THE SOCIAL DISTILLERY
A small island off the far north-western coast of Scotland, the Isle of Harris is home to a community of less than 2,000 people. In 2015, Isle of Harris Distillery was created to provide sustainable employment for generations to come by sharing this special place with the world.
WOVEN FROM PEOPLE AND PLACE
Our first historic whisky is woven from the hands of island people and the place we call home, intimate intertwining to produce a spirit of great complexity and character. This special connection between people and place continues to this day with every drop of The Hearach created by Isle of Harris hands here in the Outer Hebrides.
AN ELEMENTAL ISLAND
Our mission for The Hearach was to create a dram of balanced complexity and character. We harness the contribution of the Harris
elements to this end…gneiss rock, oak, copper, climate, peat, water, and time…with the human touch of our local distillers providing the final defining part.
A HISTORIC WHISKY
“ I get a gentle peat smoke on the first sip which reminds me of island home fires burning when I was growing up. It comes along with a toasted maltiness. I can also taste homemade apple sauce and smell machair flowers, particularly white clover which springs up on our west coast every
summer. Mixed spices appear, and an old-fashioned sweetness from things like candied ginger, vanilla, and honeycomb. Finally, there’s a long, clotted-cream note, mixed with a lasting sense of new leather. ”
